Welcome to Combined Self Defence Online!
In these times of ever increasing violence more and more people are looking for a way to protect themselves and their families from harm. In 2008 alone there were over 30 knife attacks in the news.
Combined Self Defense Teaches Paul Vunak’s PFS Training System. Combined Self Defence training is attribute, rather than technique based, making it easy to learn for both martial artists and non martial artists alike. An attribute system has major advantages over a traditional technique based system. Such as body mechanics, educated eyes, timing, reflex action, spatial awareness, sensitivity and recognition of attack lines. All of our training is designed to improve these attributes with weapons specific training, conditioning and footwork drills.
At Combined Self Defence we are only interested in teaching you how to stop any situation escalating quickly. You do this by causing your attacker pain with efficiency. This means a shorter engagement with the attacker, giving you more chance for you or your family to move to safety, before other attackers join in, or weapons are used against you.
Traditional systems have many hundreds of techniques, and some of them will fit just a hand full of scenarios. This increases the amount of time that is required to functionalise the system you have learnt. That is not to say that Traditional based systems are no good. The benefit of having performed several thousand of repetitions over many years means that these movements are embedded in your muscle memory, and can be called on without conscious thought. Many people also like the forms and pre arranged sparring that is seen in a lot of traditional systems.
People who train In traditional systems like to set personal goals and there is no doubt that attaining the coveted Black Belt takes years of Dedication and Discipline.
In PFS we use a system called THE RAT to defend ourselves, leveraging the High — Low — High theory along with constant forward pressure.
We don’t wear uniforms or belts. We don’t take gradings. To be free of the pressures of meeting the next grading target lets us concentrate on our training for Self Perfection and Self Preservation.
If that is the path you want to pursue please contact me about our Traditional Tae Kwon-Do classes.
Finally, I would like to thank you for reading about Combined Self Defense. We hope that you will find our lessons informative, enjoyable and above all, useful.
