Do you offer a free lesson?

Most Martial Art or Self Defence Schools offer one free lesson.  How can you decide if you like the class and it suits you, after just one visit.

It is Important to train with people you trust.  Some things  to consider are Class Dynamics.   Are members friendly and welcoming, do they put a priority on learning.  Or are they tough guys or bullies.

Do members of the class socialise?  Yes part of attending any group of like minded people should be socialising.  We often go for a meal or drink in the local pub after training.  We Also have a Fun day in the park and a summer social event at the Instructors home.

Is the coach/Instructor friendly, approachable, non egotistical and proficient in the delivery of the material. Too many Coaches/Instructors like to show off.  Whilst the instructors showing his/her skill allows students to see what level of skill they can gain from training in your class too much of this can be boring and intimidating.

All that said.  You are welcome to come and train with us for a month at no charge.

What’s the catch?
There is no catch.  The  Month is completely free and there is no obligation to join if you don’t want to.

What’s the cost for training with you?

When you come and visit us for your first lesson we will inform you of the costs for continued membership once your free trial lessons are complete.

Do I need to pay any signup fees?

There are no signup fees for our classes.

What are your Minimum Terms?

There are no minimum sign up terms.

What equipment will I need?

For your free trial lessons you will not need any equipment.  If you decide to sign up you will need a set of Sticks, a training knife and Stick Gloves to protect your hands.

Do you have Suits and Belts?

No we do not wear any type of uniform.

What about Grading’s?

No we do not grade our students.  Feedback we have had is that people want to learn at their own pace and not be dictated by the next grading.

So what type of clothing should I wear?

Most people wear regular street leisure wear with Trainers.

What will I be doing in the Class?

The class structure and syllabus changes from week to week.  We tend to concentrate on a particular subject for a few weeks before we start something else.  This gives students the opportunity to get proficient at a subject before we move on.  We do repeat subject matter and do catch up “maintenance” during the first section of each lesson.

Do I need to be fit, or be of a certain age?

The only criteria is you need to be over the age of 16.  No you do not need to be fit.  This type of training is not based on a traditional martial arts class that has lots of cardio and press ups.  Our oldest member is a 57 year old female.

I am a girl what can I expect?

Women need to train with men - period. It's great fun to train with other women, and there are great women warriors out there, but training with a variety of people, of a variety of sizes, including men will balance your training, improve your skills faster and build your confidence. Our oldest member is a 57 year old female.

You won’t be asked to do anything you don’t want to and can take a break if you get a bit of brain fade.

Can I come and watch?

Yes if you are seriously interested you can come and watch the class by appointment.  When you get people just walking in off the street to “just have a look” it can put members off their training.  It is much much better if you come and join in on your first lesson.

You won’t be asked to do anything you don’t want to and can take a break if you get a bit of brain fade.

How long will it take me to become good at this stuff?

That is a million dollar question.  How good do you want to get?  How much time are you willing to put in?  How often will you train? Will you practice at home?

One thing I can tell you is that every time you leave a lesson.  Whether or not you think it or believe it you will be better than you were when you turned up to start the Class.

Do you do MMA Mixed Martial Arts?

Mixed Martial Arts is an extremely specialised sport.  Most of us do not have the time to attend a gym for 5 days a week constantly working on cardio and fighting skills.  There is no doubt that MMA competitors have the edge when it comes to a fight, but don’t forget competition has rules.
